Transport in Bali is different from any other countries. You will be hard to find a proper public transport there. However, it does not mean that getting around Bali is difficult. In the island, one most popular transport option is renting a car or a motorbike. It is because of its flexibility and efficiency. However, there are some public transports in the island you can try to use.

Motorbike

Local people usually travel by motorbike. If you get there, you will see many foreign visitors riding them too. Motorbike is a popular choice for surfers because they can carry a board with them. It happens because the Balinese have developed special racks fits onto the motorbike. This is the cheapest way to travel in Bali. If you are using a motorbike for a month, you need only 500,000  or about USD 50.  You can easily see “RENT MOTORBIKE” signs wherever you go. Such place usually provides dozens of motorbikes. Most of the rental companies do not ask for your driving license.

If you can ride a motorbike or scooter, this can be the cheapest and the best way to explore the island. It is not just fun but also quicker because you do not have to stuck in traffic. But you have to be careful since many tourists came back with injuries because of traffic accidents. The road surfaces in Bali are often bumpy. There are potholes along the road so you should take care. It is better to cover arms and legs as well as a helmet for protecting your head.

Taxi

This is another popular transport in Bali, especially in Kuta and Seminyak. It is extremely easy to flag a taxi down in those two areas. Taxi is great for short distances. However, it is better to choose the reputable taxi company since some taxis claim that the meter is broken so they can try to charge you with a higher fare. Taxi is a better option because you do not have to worry about rental cars or the safety issue on motorbikes. However, it also contains a downside, especially about the fare especially if you want to travel further afield.

Rental Car

Renting a car in Bali is different from any other countries. Whilst there are international companies like Hertz do exist, you need to pay higher prices. It is suggested to search for car rental package after you reach the island. And, do not forget to shop around for the car when you get there. You will find “Rent Car” signs everywhere, and the price may vary depends on the type of the car. Bigger and newer car means higher price.

Tourist Bus

Tourist shuttle bus brings a safer and more convenient way to explore major spots. However, it is hard to find buses if you want to go to remote places like Uluwatu or Bingin. Most shuttle bus operators only reach popular destinations, such as Kuta, Sanur, Ubud, Lovina, Padang Bai or Candi Dasa. However, tourist shuttle bus is still one of the most reasonable transport in Bali.
